A Night of Pure "Egg"citement

I had put it off long enough. The eggs had to be dyed. Who's idea was it to dye eggs at Easter anyways?? Not the mother of a 3-year-old I'm pretty sure.  So, after dinner I pulled out the 11 eggs I had boiled earlier in the day and Maya and I went to work.

The adventure started out on a not-so-good note when Maya crushed one of the eggs within moments of touching it. Awesome, right?  Well, I suppose that was one less egg to dye :)

I really didn't understand how she was supposed to participate.  I had put one of Aaron's old shirts on her and she sat there with me.  She'd pick the color she wanted and drop the egg in the dye and then I'd have to fish it out and put it in the paper ringy things that come in the kit. It was all pretty devoid of excitement really.  The kit came with some stickers for the eggs so she now had to wait a little while for them to dry.

What should a little girl do while waiting for dye to dry??  Hmmmmm.......stick a purple crayon up her nose and break it off??  I think so!!  I was nursing Jude and preparing him for bed and she comes in there with her finger up her nose to about the 2nd knuckle.  I ask her if she needs to blow her nose and she tells me that there's a color up there.  I notice the flecks of purple crayon all around her mouth and nose and ask her to turn on the light.  She lets me look up her nose and I can sort of see something and I tell her to get a kleenex.

Now parents, this is where the important part of this story hits...........TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO BLOW THEIR NOSES AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE.  If Maya hadn't known how to blow her nose, I'm not sure what would have happened to the pea-size chunk-o-crayon lodged in her nose!! I'm sure it just would have gotten jammed up farther and farther by the incessant nose-picking. But, without hesitation, she blew that sucker right out and then received a thorough discussion about why foreign objects do NOT belong in there.

But guess what??? She had successfully killed enough time with her shenanigans that her eggs were now dry and she could put her stickers on! What impecable timing! :)
